Mirrors are one thing I hate to spend money on. They always seem to be grossly over-priced! Sometimes you just have to splurge or find a good sale – but when neither of those are an option you have to DIY it!
I always loved the look of white distressed mirrors, so here’s how I made my own!
I found a slightly scuffed mirror for $25 at Bargain Hunt (surprise, surprise). Since I was planning to paint it anyway the scuff wasn’t a big deal!
Any brown mirror will work. Below is an option I found, but it’s not cheap. I would highly recommended checking your thrift store, goodwills, TJ Maxx, or anything similar!
Target: $80
You’ll need:
- Mirror
- Tape
- Newspaper
- Chalk paint (I used spray paint)
- Sand paper
Here is my Bargain Hunt find with a few scuffs but nothing major!

I prepped my area with a plastic drop cloth. I’ve reused this for several projects! It’s inexpensive + durable! Bought here
Place newspapers on the mirror + tape along the edge to make sure the paint does not get on the mirror.
(Oops, forgot to take a pic)
I decided to use white chalk spray paint since I had it on hand. The spray paint is definitely a quicker application. You will need a few coats + for larger projects may need multiple cans!

This is after two coats!

Now to distress lightly along the grains. You want to sand where it would wear naturally (groves + edges).

Since my garage had lost all light, I hung it in my bedroom to sand. Since I wasn’t sanding much, it wasn’t a big deal being inside!
Just like that, you have a white + rustic full length mirror for all your shameless mirror selfies! Yay!

Love seeing the before + after!
Happy DIYing, friends!
XOXO,
Christina Carrell
